The narrative I had been working with for decades felt empty and meaningless, and didn't bring me any closer to knowing the power or purpose of my posture, or how to truly correct it.

 

Believing there had to be a more meaningful and logical approach to knowing my posture, and feeling comfortable and at ease in my body, I decided to "unlearn" everything I had learned about posture, and start fresh!

I have been where you are....

  • headaches
  • neck aches
  • locked jaws 
  • grinding teeth
  • poor sleep
  • always low in energy

  • stiffness in my neck/shoulders
  • shoulder injuries
  • poor concentration

And these were just the symptoms that I was physically aware of...

 

Now I know there were many more symptoms of my poor posture that I was not aware of, related to my entire physiology, occurring silently in the background of my health and wellness, and movement. 

 

Frustrated that no matter what I tried, my symptoms kept coming back again... and again... 

 

All the physical therapists I consulted kept telling me

"you just need to work on your posture..."

 

That's all well and good - if you know how!

What's the big deal with posture, anyway...?

 Postural issues, especially those that endure over long periods of time, can cause permanent changes to both the structure and the functionality of your spine, and can also impede the performance of your nervous system.

 

And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

 

Posture is a POWERHOUSE in our health and wellness, and general movement.

 

It contributes enormously to our productivity, cognition, communication, mood, relationships, sleep, digestion, and the general performance of our entire body - our physiology.

 

Sadly, most of us are completely unaware of this, because the narrative we have been relying on is empty in so many ways.

I permanently injured my back at the age of 21,

and I wanted to know more about posture...

 

I tried the usual approaches by following the usual cues:

shoulders back...

chin up...

don't slouch...

  I found these "corrections" to be unsustainable and completely impractical and they felt unnatural - yet good posture is meant to be a place of physical ease and comfort.

 

I tried the usual stretching and strengthening exercise programs, and still didn't find any relief from my postural pain, or lasting results with my body position.

For decades I had a deep curiosity around posture...

 

Why are we told to pull our shoulders back and lift our chin?

Why is posture so important?

Why do we fall out of good posture so easily and so regularly?

Why is it notoriously difficult for us to find and maintain this ideal body position?

 

Why do we continue having the same conversations about posture when it's clear they simply don't work?

Albert Einstein said:

 

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results." 

 

This made me realise that if we want different results with posture, we need to

try something different.

 

I believe there are deeper reasons for our disconnection from our posture, and that as a population, what we know about posture needs to be updated.

This inspired me to take on this challenge!

 

Tired of the "insanity" I sought a new understanding to achieve different results.

 

I decided to "unlearn" what I thought I knew about posture, and approach it from a completely new angle, because what I thought I knew about posture simply wasn't serving me.

In 2020 I was medically retired from my profession in frontline healthcare and decided to devote myself to this problem I had been facing for decades.

 

A problem we have ALL been facing for generations.

 

I spent the best part of 12 months experimenting with my posture, combining this with my previous education in anatomy and basic human movement.

 

Listening to my body and the messages it was sending me, and connecting with my body position and muscles, was the key to unlocking the mystery around finding and maintaining good posture.

 

I believe I have discovered the truth behind:
